Background Tag Watch
Scanning with the app closed and the phone in a pocket.
The tag watch is the always-on ear of The Mesh Network.
How it runs
Flip the switch on the app's Home screen. Android runs a foreground service - the persistent notification is the deal Android demands for background Bluetooth and location. Every two minutes the service scans for twelve seconds, reports any recognised tags with the phone's position, and sleeps again: roughly a ten percent duty cycle, modest battery.
The notification doubles as a status line: "Watching - no tags nearby", "Heard 1 tag, reported 1", or a plain-language error (for example a missing permission). The same status shows on the Home screen card.
What it needs
Nearby devices (Bluetooth), Location, and Notifications permissions - the toggle asks for all of them and names anything missing. It restarts itself after a reboot.
Good citizens
Phones report each tag at most every two minutes, and unknown tags cost a single ignored server reply. Relay Mode users run exactly this service and nothing else.
